Among the Dogon there are 78 variations or types of masks. The masks used by the Awa Society have a range of styles that include representation of birds, mammals, Dogon personages, non-Dogon personages, reptiles, and objects. Members of the Awa society sculpt their own masks or have friends create a mask.
